i spent the whole day out today. left the house at 1150, reached ICA at 12.15. got a queue number to collect my new biometric passport, and waited. at 1.30, i gave up and went for lunch with my parents. after all, standing i a room filled with 700 people gets boring after a while, especially if there are little kids running around and screaming behind you. to make matters worse, i didnt bring my ipod. of all things to forget. so anyways, after lunch we went back to wait, and it turned out the queue numbers had only moved from 2900 to 3000. so much for not having much time for lunch. so my parents when shopping while i sat there and amused myself with my phone. and of course, a conversation with henry about cameras. till finally, it was my turn and i got the passport. its funny how everyone waited for more than 2 hours, just to spend a short 3 minutes at the counter to collect a few pieces of paper in a tiny book. with of course, a microchip. on a lighter note, the thumbprint they had in their system was the one with a hole in it. i found it rather amusing.

so. whats more shiny than a new biometric passport? an even shinier new camera. so after 2 hours of contemplation in funan, and getting pissed off by stupid salesmen, i made my decision. despite what the alan photo people said about the fz18 being better, my inherent bias for canon cameras overcame any inkling of preference i may have had for large range leica lenses. i must say, it was quite amusing to see the alan photo saleswoman’s face when i asked her about sensor sizes. she went “hmm. you must have done your research. let me check the box”.

so finally we bought the s5 from john 3:16. paid 650 for the camera and a nice bag, with a 4gb hispeed sdhc card, rechargable batteries and a mini tripod coming for free. not a bad price, i must say. and so, i am content.
